Mariner and Maine DOE Reach Statewide MLTI Adoption Agreement

Minneapolis, MN – March 23, 2005 -Mariner Software, Inc., developers and publishers of professional, personal, and educational software for the writing and creativity markets, and the Maine Department of Education today formally announced the adoption of MacJournal 3, Mariner’s award-winning journaling application for the Macintosh, for all students and teachers in the Maine Learning Technology Initiative (MLTI).

The initial deployment will include MacJournal on all 7th and 8th grade MLTI computers throughout the state, as well as to those high schools enrolled in the MLTI. As other high schools join the initiative, they will also become part of the agreement. In total, MacJournal will be installed upon approximately 44,000 laptops in more than 250 schools for the 2005-2006 school year. The agreement between Mariner Software and the Department of Education will remain in effect until 2008.

MacJournal is the world’s most popular journaling software for the Macintosh. With two level security (password protection and encryption), users can record daily ideas, manage scripts and novels and export them to multiple file formats, or generate blogs to most any of the popular blogging services. To enhance its global popularity, MacJournal has been localized in nearly a dozen languages.

“We are very excited and honored that the Department of Education for the State of Maine chose MacJournal as part of the MLTI,” said Michael Wray, President of Mariner Software. “We look forward to a strong partnership with the State and one that ultimately will benefit the most important component to this agreement: the students.”

“We have found previous versions of MacJournal very popular with our students and teachers over the past two years and are excited to use the new and expanded features built into MacJournal 3,” said Tony Sprague, MLTI Project Manager for the Maine Department of Education. “Teachers have found the versatility of MacJournal very useful in their classrooms across a variety of subject areas and for students it provides a flexible and easy to use tool whether they want to simply take a few notes during class or build a journal of their work for the year. I’m sure that all of the people involved with MLTI across our state will thank Mariner Software for their willingness to partner with us on the use of MacJournal.”
